Plain Jane to Pinup Queen: Pinup Modeling Workshop in a Book Review

I have long been interested in trying my hand at pinup modeling. I came across this book while researching Bombshell Betty's Pinup Workshop schedule. I plan to take the workshop later this year, but I figured that her book could help me learn a few poses and techniques before then. I received the book a mere two days after ordering it- yay! When I opened the envelope I was a little disappointed- for 35 bucks, I guess I expected it to have some color photos at least. But as I thumbed through the pages, I was very impressed. Ms. Bombshell Betty walks you through every step of putting your sexiest self forward on camera! There are many reference photos and tips- even a section on retro hair and makeup. I'm so excited about this book... I can't wait to get together with my girlfriends and have a "Pinup Photo" day!

Modeling the '50s: The Glory Years of Rail (Model Railroader) Review

Modeling the '50s: The Glory Years of Rail (Model Railroader)

I recently purchased a copy of this book to learn more about the railroading industry in the 50s. The book provides a good overview of what railroading in 50s looked like in the US, and provides good tips and how-to's on how to make the model railroad look the right way. For example, the book includes information on how steam locomotives were weathered at that time due to lack of maintenance, how diesels weathered, right of way trackside structures still present in the 50s, or details such as the fact that stop signs were yellow instead of red. The narration of the book is centered around several model railroads which are used as examples. Overall I strongly recommend it to anyone who is interested in modeling the 50s, the transition era, and has not lived during that time :-)
