Iwata-Medea High Performance Hi Line AH Dual Action / Small Gravity Feed Cup Review

I use this airbrush for priming, base coating, and base color highlighting miniatures (warmachine and warhammer). It's precise, has a no-slop, clean trigger, cleans up relatively nicely at the end of each session, and has a high quality/construction feel to it.
I would recommend the HP-BH over this model (HP-AH) not because of the slightly larger amount of paint that the HP-BH holds, but because when holding the airbrush pointing 'down,' the 'no cup' shape of the HP-AH risks the paint spilling out over the top front of the brush, in the the airstream, and splattering paint all over your artwork! This is, of course, completely avoidable if you simply keep the brush relatively level, so this only happens with 'user error.' The BH, on the other hand, has an angled cup, so you can point the airbrush down very far (maybe 65-70 degrees 'down') before paint spilling is a concern. The angled cup on the HP-BH takes this risk out of the equation so one less thing to think about.
I also rarely use the Micro Air Control valve on the airbrush, as I have an adjustable regulator built into my compressor, and it's more precise/measurable to control the air pressure there. So you could get away with the HP-B Plus and save a few bucks. The main thing you need for painting miniatures is the small needle size (in this case, .2mm).

Featuring the ultimate in air control directly at the nozzle with Iwata's new Micro Air Control (MAC) Valve Technology, the Hi-Line Series doesn't just change air pressure instantly - it changes the way you airbrush.Designed for artists who need extreme control of detailed spraying, this series uses larger diameter threads on the nozzle than the High Performance Series. This makes the nozzle much stronger when tightening it onto the airbrush and ensures better centering of the nozzle when it screws onto the airbrush body. The Hi-Line Series is now made with Teflon needle packing, a dual-purpose cutaway, pre-set handle and one-piece auxiliary lever/needle chucking guide.

Iwata-Medea Triple Action Handle Review

I received one of these Triple Action Handle conversions for a magazine review and liked it so well, I purchased two more from Amazon to convert my other Iwata airbrushes. The handle allows for much easier clearing/unsticking of the needle without having to partially or completely dismantle the airbrush, plus the new rear needle guide allows for easy needle re-insertion without risk of bending the fine needle tip. The only negative comment is with graphic used in this online ad gives the impression that you have a choice of colors or perhaps you get the silver and four other colored handles in the one package - you do not. My sample and my two purchased conversions all have the silver handle in the package.

This Triple Action Handle gives you instant access to the needle for fast flushing and quick needle replacement. The pre-set feature holds the needle back from the nozzle allowing for a more consistent spray time after time.
